Thank You to All Our Veterans!

Today is Veterans Day, and I want to say thank you to all who have served in our armed forces to protect our freedom. To celebrate, I thought I would share some textures having to do with veterans.

Enjoy.

These dog tags hang in memorial behind one of the most legendary churches in all of U.S. history, the Old North Church in Boston. When I saw them I couldn’t help but stop and think about the men and women who fight for my freedom. This is perhaps my favorite memorial to our service men and women.

These stars cover a wall at one of the newest memorials in our nation’s capital, the National World War II Memorial on the National Mall. It is a beautiful memorial with grand fountains and sections that represent both fronts from the war.

I have two favorite flowers, the sego lily and the poppy. Poppies are especially significant for this post because they are the official memorial flower for the U.S. veterans and pretty much for any kind of remembrance day across the globe. This is because of a poem written by Canadian WWII veteran Colonel John McCrae, “In Flanders Fields.” When I visited the National War Memorial in Canberra, Australia two years ago, I bought a poppy pin to wear on Veterans Day. That pin is what I used to make this image. Click here to read In Flanders Fields.

I hope all of you will remember the men and women who have fought, served, protected, defended, died and lived to keep our country safe and free. Thank you to all of them.
