Treasure Island

Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson

Unabridged; narrated by Michael Page; Brilliance Audio

Who doesn’t love a good pirate story? I know I do, and that’s just what Treasure Island is. Jim Hawkins, who was a boy when the escapade begins at his family’s inn—the Admiral Benbow, tells the story. He also serves as the cabin boy for the expedition and ends up being the instrument of his cohorts’ salvation from the murderous, mutinous buccaneers.

It is a fun adventure story with likeable characters, and I feel like this is the source of our modern interpretation of pirates as far as the look of a pirate and how they talk and act. Long John Silver is certainly an iconic character. My biggest problem while engaged in this story was seeing the characters from Muppet Treasure Island in my imagination. I guess that’s because Tim Curry did such a great job bringing Long John to life.

I’m not sure what else to say other than this is an enjoyable book worth a quick read.
