Another Victoria Peak Hike

2016-1-4 Hong Kong dedication inscription copyMy most recent excursion to Hong Kong resulted in another wonderful experience hiking on Victoria Peak. This time I hiked up a trail from Hong Kong University and then hiked down the other side on Old Peak Road. Besides the extreme steepness and walking up about a kilometer of steps, it was a lovely hike that I recommend.

My main purpose of revisiting the hiking of Victoria Peak was to find the spot where Hong Kong and China were dedicated for the preaching of the Gospel in 1949. Near the place of that event someone inscribed the date on a rock face along the path. That is what I wanted to find. It turns out it was up higher than I thought and the actual hike up from the bottom wasn’t necessary. I could have just come up by tram or bus like last time. Oh well, it was still a great hike.

After hiking up, I went back on Lugard Road to the best lookout spot of the city and waited for some night pictures. Then what should have been a very quick wait for a bus turned into more than thirty minutes, so I decided to walk down. It was night, but every once in a while views of the glowing, twinkling city buildings would appear through windows framed by trees. Again, it was lovely, though I wouldn’t want to go up Old Peak Road since it was super steep.
